In 2007
the May Week event featured the art of the Harlem Horizon Art Studio and
performers from the Harlem Hospital Dance Leadership Program. The event
was held in the Harlem Hospital Auditorium.
In 2006 the May Week event theme was "A Celebration
of Legends: Remembering Legendary Artists who Passed Away from 2003-2006".
The event was held at the Wadleigh Secondary School for the Performing
Arts, and featured wonderful performances by current and former Wadleigh
students paying tribute to artists such as Octavia Butler, Ray Charles,
Ossie Davis, Rick James, Fayard Nicholas, Lou Rawls, Gordon Parks, Wilson
Pickett, Richard Pryor, Nina Simone, Edwin Starr, Luther Vandross, Barry
White, August Wilson, and Ronald Winans, who are "gone but not
forgotten".
In 2005 the May Week event theme was "African-Americans
in Theatre: The Experience". Featured panelists included theater
notables Charles S. Dutton, Sarah Jones, Donna Walker-Kuhne, Ruben Santiago-Hudson,
and Woody King. WCBS News Anchor Roz Abrams served as moderator for
the discussion, which took place at the Schomburg Center for Research
in Black Culture.
In 2004 the May Week event featured Profiles of African
Americans in the Media. The keynote speaker was Gil Noble. Guest panelists
were Tonya Burress, Producer, "Up To the Minute"/CBS Channel
2, Jacqueline Reid, Broadcast Journalist, "BET Nightly News"
and Thomas C. Watkins, Publisher/Daily Challenge.
In 2003 the May Week and Arts and Letters Committees
presented an Art Exhibit and Contest for high school students. The featured
artist and judge was Kennis Baptist.
